I attended Leah’s Wednesday 10:30am Mindful Reformer class and it was such a great experience. The session was incredibly professional from start to finish, with clear guidance and thoughtful pacing throughout. The atmosphere was calm and grounding, which made it easy to stay focused and present. I especially loved how gentle and supportive the movements were — effective without putting stress on the joints. Perfect for anyone looking for a mindful, low-impact workout that still leaves you feeling strong and refreshed. Highly recommend.
absolutely loved my pilates class at jyai wellness in preston! the studio is gorgeous! very open-plan, calming and beautifully designed. there are six reformer beds, each with your own individual mirror, which makes it so easy to follow along and check your form. our instructor, paul, was fantastic! super clear, encouraging and made the session flow perfectly. it’s only about a 10 minute walk from the main preston campus, which makes it ideal for uni students. finally, a stunning studio we can actually walk to! can’t wait to try the other classes 🤍🧘🏾♀️
Jyai Reformer Pilates and Wellness Centre offers 2 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.

Honest, specific answers about this studio.
one of the 3 recent reviews mention the instructors in positive terms — words such as "knowledgeable", "attentive" and "encouraging" recur most frequently. Members citing specific cues, form corrections or named instructors is a strong sign of relationship-led teaching rather than transactional class delivery. If instructor depth matters for your decision (particularly for clinical or prenatal-focused pilates), this is a useful positive signal. One recent member put it this way: "absolutely loved my pilates class at jyai wellness in preston! the studio is gorgeous! very open-plan, calming and beautifully designed. there are six reformer beds, each with your own individual m…" — Sarah Okinedo.
Yes — the studio runs Saturday and Sunday classes. Weekend mornings (08:00-10:30) are typically the busiest slots at UK pilates studios; if you prefer a quieter session, the early afternoon often has more availability.
Most UK boutique reformers start newcomers with a beginner-tagged class or a 1-1 intro session rather than dropping them into a mixed-level group. Arrive 10-15 minutes early; you'll be shown carriage adjustment, spring tension and basic safety. Wear grip socks (mandatory at most studios — they sell pairs for £8-15 if you don't have them) and form-fitting clothing that lets the instructor see your alignment. The first class is the steepest learning curve — by your third session, the equipment feels much more intuitive.
