Excellent Pilates classes with Sharon. The classes are not huge so she is able to give us all attention. She has a great knowledge of all the benefits of the exercises due to her Physiotherapy background . Would thoroughly recommend.

Sharon listened carefully to the various things I told her about my back challenges, and she identified the contributing factors very helpfully. She gave me exercises to specifically strengthen the area of my back that all too easily goes into spasm, building on exercises that I've previously been doing. Following the appointment, Sharon sent me a video which she'd kindly recorded for me, showing the exercises that she feels will build up the strength in that area of my back... and I'm already seeing the benefit of her assessment and the exercises.
I have been attending Sharon's Pilates classes for almost a year now and I can't recommend them enough! I find they really help with my running - I've definitely been less injury prone and feel stronger and more flexible. I also find it really helps prevent any aches I get from sitting at a desk all day at work. Classes are small friendly groups and different levels of difficulty are given for each exercise making it suitable for everyone.
Sharon Barlow Physio Led Pilates offers 3 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Clinical pilates combines classical pilates with physiotherapy principles. Sessions are led by chartered physiotherapists or specialist pilates instructors who design individualised programmes based on detailed postural and movement assessment.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.

Insurance reimbursement for clinical pilates depends on three factors: (1) the lead practitioner must be HCPC-registered as a Chartered Physiotherapist — verify by asking the studio or checking the HCPC public register, (2) your policy must include a physiotherapy benefit, and (3) most insurers (Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, WPA, Aviva) require either a GP referral or completion of their own self-refer pathway. Standard reformer or mat classes at the same studio are not reimbursable — only sessions led by a chartered physio with a clinical assessment qualify.
