Been attending all classes yoga, pilates, reformer and the new class, Aerial yoga. I love all the classes that I attend, thank you Taira, Kodi, Paula and Deborah, for 6 years of excellent, proffesional and friendly classes, Yvette 💕
The studio is a beautiful, calming space and the instructors are very encouraging and supportive for all levels of experience and age and fitness status. There is a great range of classes available and class sizes are small so you get individual attention for maximum benefit. Having some classes available online is also very handy. I haven’t had any recurrence of my back issues since starting at Rochdale Pilates, have developed core strength, made some great friends and had some laughs along the way. Highly recommend Taira and the team to help you on your journey to reach your health goals.
Rochdale Pilates & Yoga Studio offers 2 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.

Honest, specific answers about this studio.
one of the 3 recent reviews mention the instructors in positive terms — words such as "knowledgeable", "attentive" and "encouraging" recur most frequently. Members citing specific cues, form corrections or named instructors is a strong sign of relationship-led teaching rather than transactional class delivery. If instructor depth matters for your decision (particularly for clinical or prenatal-focused pilates), this is a useful positive signal. One recent member put it this way: "The studio is a beautiful, calming space and the instructors are very encouraging and supportive for all levels of experience and age and fitness status." — Alex Gledhill.
Yes — at least one weekday class runs until 20:00 or later, which suits members training after a standard working day. Evening peaks at most UK pilates studios run from 18:00 to 19:30, with later 20:00-21:00 slots usually quieter and easier to book on the day.
Most UK boutique reformers start newcomers with a beginner-tagged class or a 1-1 intro session rather than dropping them into a mixed-level group. Arrive 10-15 minutes early; you'll be shown carriage adjustment, spring tension and basic safety. Wear grip socks (mandatory at most studios — they sell pairs for £8-15 if you don't have them) and form-fitting clothing that lets the instructor see your alignment. The first class is the steepest learning curve — by your third session, the equipment feels much more intuitive.
