Where do I begin? Mel has been an absolute game changer for me since opening Thrive. I was so keen to get back into Reformer Pilates, and from my very first class I knew I’d found something really special. Having experienced lots of Reformer Pilates teachers over the years in both London and New York, I can honestly say Mel is truly exceptional - I genuinely think you’d struggle to find better. She’s so welcoming, incredibly knowledgeable and just brilliant at what she does. The studio is gorgeous, the classes are varied, and every session feels thoughtfully put together. I honestly can’t thank her enough for opening Thrive - it’s a true local gem! My only dilemma in shouting about how amazing it is, as that it might make it even harder for me to book in. But truly, if you’re thinking about it, go. You won’t regret it!
Mel is a brilliant Pilates Reformer instructor! Her studio is super welcoming and friendly.. people talk to you here and you gain friends as well as an exercise class. She’s really knowledgeable and offers different levels to progress to on the exercises, so you can work to your own ability. I definitely recommend!
Thrive Pilates offers 2 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.
