I came to Helen’s Pilates class after having dislocated my sacro-iliac. I have now been coming for some years and I find it most helpful. I am 78 and the class members are similar ages. I find that Helen is very aware that elderly joints are less supple and she tailors her sessions to suit people’s needs. There is no pressure to do more than you are able, while at the same time she offers alternatives which will target slightly different muscles and give a greater variety. I have been in the Beginners class since I started, but those who wish to advance have two more advanced sessions at different times and venues to choose from. I am a proud Beginner!
Pilates with Helen has had a huge positive impact on my ability to function. Helen takes us gently through our excercises increasing the pace according to the class ability. I can’t recommend her classes highly enough.
Helen Taylor Pilates offers 2 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.
