I was advised by my doctor to start pilates to help with some joint pain I had been experiencing, I joined Parkstone Pilates back in January having never done it before and I can honestly say I will never look back. The classes are so fun, Dawn is a brilliant teacher and I always feel like my individual needs are catered for even when the class is full. My strength, coordination and overall fitness have greatly improved and most importantly my joints are feeling much better than they were 5 months ago.
Really lovely studio. *You need grip socks!* Dawn is super welcoming and it felt like doing a class with friends. Loved the Jump class, it was simple and effective, and working on all the springs from light to heavy really gave a great workout but also focus on strengthening different areas. Will definitely go again.
Parkstone Pilates Studio offers 2 pilates disciplines. Each one is suited to different goals — read the breakdown below to see which fits.
Reformer pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment using adjustable spring resistance. It targets deeper stabilising muscles than mat-based pilates and is widely used for posture correction, core strength, injury rehabilitation and pre/postnatal training.
Mat pilates uses your bodyweight on a padded mat, often with small props like resistance bands, blocks and pilates balls. It's the most accessible form of pilates — no heavy equipment, lower price points, and easier to continue at home.

This kind of language pattern, particularly across multiple reviewers, tends to indicate a settled member community rather than a high-turnover commercial environment. Yes — the studio runs Saturday classes. Weekend mornings (08:00-10:30) are typically the busiest slots at UK pilates studios; if you prefer a quieter session, the early afternoon often has more availability.
Most UK boutique reformers start newcomers with a beginner-tagged class or a 1-1 intro session rather than dropping them into a mixed-level group. Arrive 10-15 minutes early; you'll be shown carriage adjustment, spring tension and basic safety. Wear grip socks (mandatory at most studios — they sell pairs for £8-15 if you don't have them) and form-fitting clothing that lets the instructor see your alignment. The first class is the steepest learning curve — by your third session, the equipment feels much more intuitive.
